Child Custody
There are several factors that the court must consider in determining which parent shall be designated as the primary residential custodian, among the primary factors are the best interest of the children and the continuity of their care. The court also must protect the rights and interests of the alternate residential custodian.
Child Support
Non-Custodial parents are required to pay child support in the state of Tennessee. This is not an option, but an obligation, as parents are responsible for the financial needs of their children.
Adoptions
There are different types of adoptions, such as step-parent adoption, relative adoptions, and non-relative adoptions. Once a final order of adoption has been ruled by a court of law, the adoptive parents gain the same rights and responsibilities as parents whose children are born to them; subsequently, an adopted child gains the same rights as birth children in regard to inheritance, child support and other legal matters.
